The Gifted

a pretty obvious take, but in the midst of a nearly impossible week,

it’s what i could do…Friday Fictioneers 6-14-2013

The obvious one.  Anyone could tell.  The way he bobbed his head in traffic or nodded slowly in the wind, syncopating steps with the train rails’ click-clack, fingers never still at the table – proverbially whistling as he worked.  Even his breath had a cadence – nary emitting verbal lines without their shaping tones.  Foot bevel harmonizing crossed-legged knee bounce – friends said “he always had it in him.”  Phrasing his rises and his falls.  Ears ever plugged wide open – he tasted and he touched, he heard, saw and smelled the world as sound.  He really was into music.

Lost Notes of  a Professor

Lecturing on identity.  Include concepts of time, space, agency, chaos, complexity, iteration, reiteration and in relation to.  Keep in mind change.  Also recursion.  The fractal figurations of memory.  Sciencing as an attempt to pin it down.  Take a photo.  Write a story.  To each their own.  Assignment:  construct an account of identity.  Include:  measurements, observations, evaluations, inferences and evidence.  Question:  How did you come to this?  Lesson:  assemblage, spiral, adaptation, context, situation, complexity.  Perhaps a discursion on open complex and dynamic systems.  Investigate co-constitution.  Temporaneity.  Wish-fulfillment.  Strange attractors.

Window Dressing

You, in your bluish hue – nostalgic and hopeful – ever inhabiting a kind of aether, neither here nor there, but possible – like heavens, like waters – deep, open, beyond.  A different form of presence, not with, but altogether.  Perhaps.  Whereas I, in fleshy, earthbound, soiling tones – dressed to catch the eye – hang myself into the world of shapes and edges, angles and points – risking extravagant extension rather than mirroring sea and sky.  Butting bodies – yours forgiving and surrounding, just shy of the resistance for friction – mine stolid and secure, and flagging its pronouncement.

Never Good With Numbers – 24 May 2013 – Friday Fictioneers

knee-jerk response trying to coax the writing machine within, thanks Rochelle Wisoff-Fields and Friday Fictioneers community

I was never good with numbers.

I meant, I intended, I felt the pressing need to say, to clarify.  But I was never good with numbers.  At least to specify, remonstrate, apologize, perhaps even to confess.  Certainly profess, express remorse, plead a little, cry.  I wanted you to know.  So many things.  How you struck me, thudded through, infiltrated, saturated, overwhelmed.  How I craved and believed.  What I dreamt.

But I was never good with numbers.

Meeting the Requirements

Wobbling within our habitation – wandering and confused, almost wondering why, but still composing, constructing, rearranging and conceiving it again in different light at different angles in differing times from different points of view, almost like a structure or a form foaming out of content like both sides of a two-way mirror – what we’ve made of what we’re made of – making tremendous spackled multi-entried exits and shifting permeable boundaries – you push, I push, we pull – it changes – look again and reconsider, same as considering anew or forever beginning while still it’s taking shape, working it over even when we’re not working – not really – detail upon detail after detail ever only under one single purpose – to be functional.

Of Objects and Artefacts

Friday Fictioneers, April 26, 2013

I stepped up to read.  I.  Stepped up.  To read.  Probability, readiness, obligation.  The ambiguities.

A body, emotive, sensitive, intentional – in an environment that includes me.

In a state.  For an activity.  Motional, potentially controllable: possessions, perceptions, cognition.

A circumstance, a situation.  Complex phenomenon.  Elaborating, extending, enhancing.

Time and place replete with past, present and future.  Here, now.  Ordinary, occasional, simple things – processes.

Being, doing, sensing.  Thinking, feeling, seeing, saying.  Behaving.  Acting, changing, being created.  Existing.  Having identity and attributes, symbolizing.  Relation is all.  The relations of relations.

We interact.

The Wasps Nest

Friday Fictioneers – April 19, 2013

Wasp nest

We move in, we move out – forging a network in lieu of an origin.  Seekers in search of a source.  Our tunneling leads to more tunnels and caves – enclosures disclosing.   Disclosures enclosing – we seesaw in dialogue.  We create and we seek.  We call it the Realm of the Conduits – we guess and infer, hungry for meaning.  Communicating by movement, we follow and lead, listen and hum.  When sharing we shove through the space.  We sense we’re on shifty smooth ground.  To call it a world does not matter.  The question is how we might meet.

The Training

Friday Fictioneers – April 5, 2013

From Scott Vanatter with permission-Copyrigh- Indira

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it”

Proverbs 22:6

Now I’m grown up and old I can see the effects of my “training.”  Ingrown here, stunted there, twisted and crooked aslant.  The cells in their leaning away.  Living and dead all over.  No chance of undoing.  I don’t  doubt that the core of me is reaching, but axes and ropes have wounded my way.  I did my damnedest.  Filling up leaves, sending out seeds, but the root was in the sap.  Perhaps I’ll be useful for burning.

Lamps

The body as a field where many battles rage.  Strife of ideal fathering, strafed with spousal passion and demands.  The infantries advance – toward occupational worth – stealth sweeping the rewards.  Childhood plans of freedom and grandeur – the risk and adventure – hits from guerilla flanks.  The will to heroic power and injured survival.  Biology of age.  Maproom of surrender and negotiating borders.  Where the surge will be.  Today.  Rigorous advance of death.  Waging to forge something like a home, a country, an interdependent territory.  All of it leaving its marks.

It is time to sit down and write.  Time, as measured by flame.

It has to be burning.

Set Screens

for Friday Fictioneers, March 15, 2013.

Copyright - Lora Mitchell

With age I come to see more clearly, through glaucoma and the cataracts.  Each layer beamed away, burning holes in cloudy veils.  Colors hardly remembered, bright edges that the world lends.  All that glitters can’t be told.  Even my hearing improves, as if long years of practice had taught me how to listen.  The paper of my skin whispers pages’ sound.  Dying’s process of deletion, dropping memories like scales.  Surgery after surgical procedure – removing the lens, installing; expanding tubes, constricting; bypassing and shunting – internal edits increasing my awareness that I’ve no idea how deep my set screens go.  I am yet to see this world, through the versions that I’ve filmed.
